Position Overview
A hands-on analytical role responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of EDI data flows between suppliers, EDI platforms, and SAP ERP systems.
The role focuses on EDI message analysis, validation, troubleshooting, and data quality assurance, working closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, and external EDI service providers. It is not a technical development of the underlying EDI solution.
Key Responsibilities
EDI Data Analysis & Monitoring
· Analyze EDI messages and transactional data to ensure compliance with agreed standards and business rules.
· Monitor EDI message flows (e.g. PRICAT, INVOIC, DESADV) and identify data inconsistencies, missing segments, or validation errors.
· Validate business-critical data fields across EDI platforms and SAP ERP systems.
Issue Analysis & Troubleshooting
· Investigate EDI processing errors and data mismatches across connected systems (EDI platform ↔ SAP).
· Perform root-cause analysis and document findings in a structured and transparent way.
· Track, manage, and document EDI-related incidents and analysis tasks using tools such as JIRA.
Supplier Onboarding & Testing Support
· Support supplier onboarding from a data and message-validation perspective.
· Validate EDI message structures, content, and mappings during onboarding and change activities.
· Perform functional testing of EDI message flows in test and production environments together with technical teams.
Collaboration & Documentation
· Collaborate closely with internal technical teams, business users, and external EDI service providers (e.g. Seeburger, OpenText, IBM Sterling, Axway).
· Maintain structured documentation, including:
o EDI mappings and validation rules
o Common error patterns and resolution guidelines
o Data-quality and monitoring standards
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to EDI data quality, monitoring, and operational stability.
Scope Clarification
This role:
· Focuses on analysis, validation, and operational data quality
· Does not include:
o Technical development (e.g., interface development)
o Custom coding or system architecture design
Technical configuration and development are handled by dedicated IT resources.
Requirements for the Role
Must-Have
· 2+ years of hands-on experience in EDI operations, EDI support, or EDI data analysis.
· Solid understanding of EDI fundamentals, message structures, and end-to-end ERP integration (preferably SAP).
· Experience analyzing and troubleshooting EDIFACT messages (e.g. PRICAT, INVOIC, DESADV) and/or XML or SAP IDocs.
· Strong analytical mindset with high attention to data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
· Ability to translate business rules and process logic into clear data validation and analysis results.
· Professional communication skills in English (German is a plus).
· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple analysis tasks in parallel.
· Confident use of Excel for data analysis, validation, and reconciliation.
Nice-to-Have
· Experience with SAP modules and data flows (MM / SD / FI).
· Experience working with EDI platforms or service providers such as:
o Seeburger
o OpenText
o IBM Sterling
o Axway B2Bi
· Experience using JIRA or similar ticketing tools.
· Background in retail, wholesale, supply chain, or ERP-integrated environments.
